Materials, Forms, and Regional Identity

Lets start to think about those issues this week.  I am looking forward to seeing your presentations on Wednesday.

  1. I like the idea of possibly going off the mining construction. Boulder was originally a mining community plus if you look at some of the angles on the mining pic above you can see some of the same intersections in some of the historic houses in chautauqua and on the hill. I also like to think of the materials that are local to boulder/colorado, I think as a group we can come up with many ways the materials can be pushed. Similar to the log building in the Onix book, it seems that they used a traditional material but but using it in the non typical way added an amazing dynamic. What do you guys think about the mining buildings? any other ideas?

  2. Also straw bales are used a lot in the boulder area. I will post a link to a company that uses them in town.

  3. I think it would be great to incorporate regional history into our design.
